His early essays in: the "Spectator" are immature (says , , thi "Westminster Gazette") and are. not likely to be resuscitated in the Jiear_ future. •- Yet all his prose work bears the impress of his strong individuality, and , some of _ his ■, slightest essays have distinct biographical value, as, for example, the aniusing "Fortnightly Review" paper called .
