What will become of the. closed hotels m Auckland district? is a question that naturally presents itself now that reduction has taken place. Tho query was pat to various members of the "trade" to-day. The reply vouchsafed by a representative of a leading brewery firm was: "It is impossible to say." An to what tho, loss to tho trade . will be, ho remarked that it would run into tons of thousands'of pounds, probably approximately £00,000. . Another monibor of the "trade" said one Bection. of community would not • give the licensed trade credit for desiring to keep up.the standard of accommodation. All the same, licensed victuallers as a whole were jealous of the reputations of their hotels, especially bv regard to comfortable accomi portion.
