PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
. A'meeting of Potone; Borough- Council was held last 'evening, and ; was attended by the Mayor (Mr. J.'-W. M'Ewan), Councillors Short, Harding, Southgate, Colquhoun, Piper, Young, List, Jones, and Trucman. ,-Thoi Minister ; for Labour forwarded a copy of; the proclamation fixing the Hours of grocers within tho borough. Mr. A. Boyd wrote protesting' against the amended hours of, closing. —.Received. Tho Wellington Rugby Union wrote asking that the council should boar portion of the cost of advertising tho football matches ;held on the Eecrealiou Ground.—Received. ' '
The town clerk (Mr. A. Webster) intimated that ,the letter not availnblo for-the counoil on April 14 had been found. Tho minute relating to it, "Lost on tho press table," had been altered to read,i "Found and filed." ■'-.." St. Men's Club asked foif the use of the Recreation Ground on Juno 3 for the purpose of hockey and football matches.' —Request granted. , •'■■ .'. A petition was received from the drapers of the borough, asking that steps should be taken to fix the hours of closing as follows:—Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, at 6 p.m.; Wednesdays, at 1 p.m.; and Saturdays, 9 p.m.. . Ex-Councillor J.' G. Castlo wrote accepting reappointment, as the council's representative on tho Petone Technical Sohool Board.
Lower Hutt Borough Council wroto advising that they-were prepared to enter into an agreement for seven years,'as from August 1; to take: gas at 4s. 3d. .per thousand feet for, the first three years, and 4s. per thousand for tho remnining four years of such period.—lt was; "resolved to instruct .the borough solicitor to draw up air'ngreement, to be submitted to both councils. It : was also resolved to instruot the engineer to report aS to what ■ additional plant will bo required to maintain the supply for seven years. .' ■ ,
St. David's Biblo; Class were granted permission to use the Recreation Ground for the purpose of holding races on Juno 3. the allotment of ground to be left with tho caretaker. It was resolved, on tho motion of Councillor Southgate, to empower the engineer to. issue licenses to plumbers making application for same, provided' that ho is satisfied of their ability to carry : out their work.
