In,"Miss Faust"—somewhat Temotely founded on Goethe—an-old lady sells'her soul to. Satan for .yonth and its joys. Valentino, also'a lady, is killed in a duel, bnt the gnardian- tmgd, with anything but-, an angelio; face, hovers-round, andplays tricks with, tho female Faust, but eventually sees --that -she- roaches a very theatrical paradise, in company with her malo Marguerite. Other good pictures are "A (Marathon Race," "Virginias and Claudius," •'Cingaleo Village,-. Life," ' ."Paul's Party," ■Eope-making," and "Tile Dentist's Daughter." Such a programme, should attract largo audir 'ehces'...during thei. present week. The usual matinee will be given ou Saturday, afternoon.
y\' : a successful-cantata: : : -, ; . :■ In conneotion with the thirty-sixth anniver-sary-of the ifothodist Church in Mol«sworth ■ Street, the cantata , :"Faith Triuinfna'nt," one of G.-.F. Koot'B;works, was produced in the, church'last evening by the choir \rith the assistance ..of. friends and an orchestra. It is evidently ft favourite work; as this mokes the third rendering of.it in reoent years. There Was a good attendance, and judging from the frctmont. applause tho ! performance was thoroughly .enjoyed. Tho composer has taken for. his theme the'healing in Damascus of Naaman tho leper,: and it gives good scope -for some -very ; fine .solos ; and- choruses. .The eolos were undertaken by Mrs. Gadding, as tho Queen; Mrs. Tanner, Wife of Naainan; Mis. Halliday, the. Hebrew Maid I; .Mr. Bryant, Iran tho Prophetj •,Mr. 'Hobman, . Naotnan—who, all feained the evident approval! of their listeners. Mrs. HallidayV as tho Hebrew Maid, had-a beautiful thing to,sing In "The Silver Sun of Night.' , Perhaps one of tho ■ most exacting solos sung during tho > evening was "A Cloud is on the Mountains" in thointorni scene, sung by '. Mr. Bryant, ns Iran. Mr. Hobman, as Naaman, fa Vo, a good rendoring of,"Now, Sing to Jehovah." The chorus i singmc was particularly good, * and Mr. Sims, the; conduotor, should foel pleased with his work. ■
