CITY AND COUNTRY. ADDITIONAL RESULTS. Additional results of tho nnmial elections of district school committees, hold on Monday evening last, aro as follow :— BROOKLYN. ( At tho meeting of householders of tho Brookljn School district tho following resolution was passed:—"That this meeting endorses the action of tho committco in endeavouring to sccuro increased accommodation, deplores tho dolay in that accommodation, and urges upon tho Education Board tho absolute need of immediate additions." _ < It was also resolved that tho action of tho Wellington Headmasters' Association in opposing cadet camps bo endorsed. ' IN OTHER DISTRICTS. ~ r Shannon.—The successful candidates for the Shannon School Committee were— Messrs. D. Gardner, 59 votes; F. Sowrnan, 66; A. Smith, 61; E. J. Judd, 52; J. Batehelor, 40; E. Law, 37, F. Lmdsel, 34. Thoro svero 12 nominations.- .' Greytown.—Tho following wero elected to the Greytown High School Committee for the ensuing year:—Messrs. Beard, Maxton Walden. Brunton, Tate, Fisher, Spero, Humphries. Mr. Wm. Board wae elected chairman, Mr. Wfllden treasurer, and Mr. S. Max- j ton secrotary. , - ~ Upper Hutt.—Sorenty-sit householders and parents attended the annual mooting in tho new schoolioom, and Mr. G. Lay, J.P., was voted to the chair. Tho "balance-sheet showed that, after liquidating all liabilities, thefc would remain £3 10s. !)d. m tho school fund, exclusive accrued capitation. A sum of '£16 4s 3d. was in tho hands of trustees to bo disbursed upon playground appliances. Messrs, Cameron (chairman) and T. Edwards did not' se«k re-election. Eleven candidates woro nominated, arid the following wore declared elected:—Messrs. J. T. Bengo, P. D. Davis, W. Greig, A. K. Jowitt, J. Lambert, A. G. Martin, A. J. M'Curdy, J. Whitoman, and W. J. Wilkie. At the committco meeting held subsequently, Mr. Greig Has elected chairman and Mr. i -M'Cilrdy Bccretary. Talbot, who is leaving this weok to take up a position on the staff of tho Greymouth School was tho recipient of a testimonial from the committee. J. Elliott and L. Thompson. The outgoing committeo and tho teaching staff were accorded votes of thanks. Tho Tpport and balance-shoot w/-re road, and showed that tho outgoing committee had done excellent wo-k, and the cli.iiimnn stated that the Rev Mr Gmgcr had boon the best secretary tho bchool had ever had. 'A very largo crowd assembled at tho meeting of householders lost night, tho attraction being the discussion of a motion' in, favour of giving an hour and a half for dinner and oxtending the closing hour to 3.30. _' Tho motion was defeated by a large majority.
FREE MEALS FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN. (Bit TEi.EOßApn.—sriicui,'eonnr.sr'WDENT.l Chrlstchurch, April 27. At the householdeis' meeting at Woolston last evening, a proposal that a room in tho school should bo hot asido for tho use of children during tho lunch hour on wet days was favourably discussed. The discussion led to a suggestion that the Education Department should bo asked to provide a freo meal for children in the middlo of tho day, and one hoUsohoMor said he was euro it would be appreciated. Another said that tho Govornment had money for Dreadnoughts, but not for starving children, and a third reiraiked that it would be a good thing to allow th'o children a meal, as the ruturo wives and mothers of the Dominion would learn something of cooking. ■AVamui-o-mata. —Tho committee elected to superviso' the working of Wainui-o-mata School tor tho coming year comprises: Messrs; J. J. Wood (chairman), J. Burrow (secretary), 0. L. Jonsen, G. Burdm, H. Wiutchcr, H. Drummond, and F. Prouse. Jipuni.—Tho School Committee for the ensuing twelve monthi is as follows:—Messrs. S. A practical - suggestion was mado by tho 'headmaster of tho West Chrislchurch School at last' ovetnny's: meeting of householders. Ho said that ho had ' for some timo thought of suggesting a day, perhaps twico a J ear, when parents could visit tho school and see it m full swing If parents received such an invitation,the start would bo pleased to seo as many as could avail themselves of it. Tho visits would stimulate interest in thp hchool, and incidentally in the School Committee election. The proposal was subsequently approved of by resolution of the meeting.
