Poth'erick: Shield for. the.' third time,-it..had' . become 'his .property,; and the president, Mr, trophy; TW attendance of ineinbers had been' v 'good .throughout the' year, which..'enabled- a «- summer , handicap'tourney on the Rees system,, combined with; the handicap principle ;to be* held. Barnes won tho . second iprize, Mr. AW. O. Davies the third, and Mr, John Mason, tho fourth. G. Fell (prize of £2 2s. for Rees. tourney) and John Mason (photograph o'f congress). A.very hearty vote of thanks was . also accorded to Mr. Petherick for hii generosity to tho club,, as mentioned above.' It: was resplved to.open the season: on Saturday next, all chess plavers to be invited, xt is.hoped that Mr. Crackanthorpe,. chess champion of New South. Wales, will bo present. " Votes of-thanks to tho lion, secretary (Mr. ' T; ,Foujiy) and the treasurer (Mr. A. Gyles) for their services during the past year were carried by ncolamation.
