' ■ •' ft a proposed, to add to every regiment a reservo of trained horses. We propose to take ; a. add 209, fifty to each horse regiment, and_theso horses will be on a peculiar footing.. They will.be highly trained horses, but they : are not wanted all the year round, ihey are to be with the regiments when they are wanted, but when they;are not wanted, we propose that they shall fulfil that- function .often so uuuoh, advertised in the papers-'A : ady, highly educated skilled desires comfortable home where sho-will receive her board and lodging m.exchange for services.', (Loud aughter;) These higKly trained horses will .lodge out with farmers and others, and will do certain light work m exchange for their'bed and- board. ~" . • • : "Some' 156,000 horses would be required altogether on mobilisation. We have uot 25 000 registered and 40,000 in all available, •so that the deficiency is 116,000. There are 2,000,000 •horses in the country. - The country associations and police were taking censuses of the horses. Ihe scheme is that horses will bo classified.by export local committees nominated by the county associations and working in conjunction with tho remount officials. In that way webelieyo: wo shall be able'to get'a very good record of the horses in the country and_know ; .how we stand in-each county for mobilisation.
