Weddings. • At Knox Church, Mas'tertoh, on Wednes3ay morning, Miss Esther M. Hollings, eldest : daughter of Mr. A. Hollings, was married to Mr. Alfre<l Percy Southey, of Manaia. Tho brido was given away by her father, and was supported' by her and Miss Eayne'r. 'Mr. Lewis Southey, brother of the bridegroom, acted as best man, and the ceremony was performed by the' Rev A.T.Thompson. After the ceremony the guests were enter- , tained at a wedding breakfast- at the Arcadia tea rooms. . -In the Presbyterian Church, Martdnborough, at noon' on Wednesday,' Mr. George M'Lean. of Hatuma, Hawke's Bay, second ' son of Mr. Roderick M'Lean, of Loch Broom, Ross-shire, Scotland/was married to Miss Mary Baptisto Bennett, second daughter of the ■'.'.'• late, Mr. James Bennett, of Boscombe,, Bournemouth, England. The Rev. James • M'Caw officiated, and the service was choral, , Mi&3 Orr presiding at the organ. The bndo, who was given away by Mr. Ales. M'Gregor, • wore a chamiing dress of white Japanese silk trimmed ■ with rose point lace, and pearl pendants. With this a white felt hat was worn, trimmed with white silk tips. The-brides-maid, Miss Broadbent, wore a frock of moss green silk, with tucked net vest trimmed with point kce. Mr. Mark N.-Hardio was best man. Both bride and bridegroom wero :- v formerly well-known and popular in the - Lower Valley, but their future home will be , in Hawke's Bay. A Moonlight Picnic. ' Wednesday evening was exquisitely beautiful, ' there was little wind, a clear round moon, and a pearl-tinted sky, that made the townsfolk wish to spend hours out of doors, andat the Hutt a happy tarty went for a cycling rido to Silvcrstream, returning to Mason's Gardens at Taita for supper. The picnic was given by Miss V. Johnston and Mjss L. Treadwell, and there wero over thirty guests, among the number boing: Mr. and Mrs. Clere, and the Misses Johnston (2), Treadwell, Humfrey (2), Foster (3), Matthows, Welch, Eliot, Kingdon, Lee, Forbes, Clere, and Allporfc,\and Messrs. Treadwell (2), Richter,Russell, Mirams, Stevens, Strauchon, Purdy, Heaton, Jackson, O'Meara, London, Bladden, and Alvcs. An Unpleasant Awakening. Mrs. T. 11. Humphries. Mrs. Rolleston, of Willis Street, who has been a patient at a private hospital for somo weeks, is now quite recovered, and has resumed' business. The Cinderella dances given at the Hutt have developed into a yearly institution, and are eagerly looked forward to as each season comes round. Tho first Cinderella dance of this season will be given at tho beginning of May. Miss V. Johnston, who for the last two years has . acted as secretary <v the dance .committee, and has done so much to make them successful, has resigned that position, and Mr. Fulton takes her place. The "members of the new committee arc Misses Matth'ews, Hayward, Wilson, and Foster. Tlie monthly meeting of .tho Convalescent $ : Homo Trustees was held on April 7, when tho following ladies wero present: Mesdames Linman (in tho chair), Grady, Brandon, Moorhouse, Mrs. Barron (treasurer), Miss G. Morrah (secretary). The matron reported that fourteon patients had been admitted, and thirteen discharged during tho . month. Gifts were acknowledged with thanks from Mesdames O'Connor, Snaddon, Johnston, and Rotheram. Soveral of Miss Hardinge-Maltby's pupils . are arranging to give entertainments at tho bazaar is to bo hold in aid of St. Mary's Guild towards tho ond'of the wintor. Thoy-will give little one-act plays,'and are making themselves responsible for tho entertainment .on three evenings.
