LAW AND JUSTICE.

Sir, —I noticed a peculiar oaso in your issue of yesterday headed, "A Tailor in Trouble." 'If tho facts aro" as stated, I question the legality not only of the. sontenco, but even of tho conviction. Ono of tho' greatest magistrates this country has ever seen onco said in a somewhat similar case, "If it was even to savo his life I am not going to break tho law." . I have noticed such eases havo been pretty frequent in Wellington for some timo back. Vet no notice appears to bo taken of tho fact by anybody. The unfortunate poor have few friends. Was it not always so? What about the efficiency of our very expensive police force? I am assured some of them know more about bowls than law. If true, this is pleasant, considering our cxpensiro "importations."—l am, etc., , JUSTICE. April 3.
