THE DRIFT TO SOUTHDOWNS.
To the Editor. ' Sir, —In referenco to your notes in to-day's issue as to tho fattening of Southdown lambs, 1 would like- to draw attention, to a remark mado by Mr. W. Lowrio as to tho ofl'ect of rape, ltapo in this country is too strong for lambs, ami makes too much blood in their heads. 1 know cases in which tho lambs havo lost their ears on this account. This may not be of much consequence to lambs intended for tho butcher, but it would spoil their sale for flock purposes. Sir. Lowrio, referring to this matter lately, advisod farmers to thousand-headed kale, which, although it hasn't tho fattening powers of rape, is a very good and safo food for lambs. My own experience confirms this. Sainfoin, mentioned by you, and clovor also, I havo found to mako excellent lamb forage.
