Benjamin Mores, an Italian, died in tho hospital on Sunday as the result of injuries alleged to bo duo to an assault upon him. it is stated that a number of men vero com-, mitting, a disturbance in a boardinghouso kept by his wife, when bo interfered. A iottle was thrown, causing a severe wound on his head. Mores worked the next week, but bis condition grew serious,- and subse?uontly it was ascertained that his skull Was ractured. ■ ' , An inquiry was opened into the cireunv etances to-daj , . Mary Casseroni Mores, tho ■widow, stated that her husband was a native of Switzerland. Shb last saw. him alivo in the hospital on Saturday, and sho described a brawl which iook place in her boardihehouso , a fortnight ago, when deceased was hit on \ the head by ono of tho men in the house. The '; inquiry was adjourned.for a week to enablo ~ the police to make further inquiries. .■ Tho .police have arrested a young man named Joseph Griffiths, who is alleged to ■ have thrown the bottle at Mores's head.
KILLED IN THE BUSH. , . Auokland, March 29. Ernest H. Irving, a bush contractor, was tilled while tripping a dam at Owera. A PAINFUL EXPERIENCE. Auckland, March 29. •A serious accident happoned to Mr. Rollot, of Wellington, at Tokaami, on Saturday evening. Ho was on his way to a hot bath by himself.' when, getting on tho wronc track in tho darkness, ho fell into one of tho largo boiling pools and was severely scalded. Fortunately sorao friends wore close by, and rescued him, conveying him to the hotel, where tho visiting doctor attended to his injuries., ■' BOY HURT AT. THE WHARF. , _ Whilst climbing up a rope ladder alongside the steamer Hawke's Bay at the Queen's Wharf, at 8.15 yesterday morning, a lad named Anthony Jfipson, 13 years of ago. residing in Upper Willis Streot, slipped and fell a distance of 15ft. on to the wharf. The lad was attended to by I)r. Henry, who pronounced him to be suffering from shock, and ordered his removal to his home. A FALL FROM A TRAM CAR. Miss Kate DalyJ of No. 3 Regent Street, fell whilst getting off a tram car opposite the Ncwtomi School on Saturday afternoon, and received concussion of tho brain .and an injury to her elbow. The injuries are not considered serious, and the young lady was removed to her home.
