WELLINGTON COLLEGE.

1 BOARD OF GOVERNORS. The monthly meeting of tho Board of Governors of tho 'Wellington Collego and Girls'. High School, was ' held yesterday, there being present: Mr. A. do B. Brandon (in tho. chair), Miss Richmond, and Mr. Robert Leo. Accounts amounting to £339 lis. Gd. wcro passed for payment. A Jotter was received from tho Assistant Inspector-General of Schools, intimating that arrangements had been made whereby tho tuition fees of this year's scholarshipholders, would bo paid by tho Education Board, to whom accounts for fees wcro to be rendered. Tho communication was received. A statement submitted showed that tho proportion of expenditure of the amount of £10,000, Government grant in aid of the new annexe at Wellington Boys' College, was as follows:—Contract, £9157 lis. 7d.; clerk of works, £174; architect, £477 175.; on account of furniture, £100 lis. sd. Over and abovo that an extra expenditure of £252 2s. had been incurred for furniture and appliances. • With respect to that, tho Assistant Inspector-General of Schools intimated that tho Government was not prepared to defray any expenditure over and abovo the original amount of tho grant of £10,000, which, throughout, had been regarded as the maximum which could bo allowed. There had already been paid £9809 Bs. 7d. : , and a" final credit of £190 lis. sd. was now remitted. There was no discussion.

On the recommendation of tho Principal of tho Boys' Collego (Mr. J. P. Firth), who stated that nearly all last year's scholarship winners had left the college, tho board approved of tho following -award of scholarships : — . Rhodes Scholarship, £20: A. S. Scott; Moor Scholarship, £20: F. M. Corkill; Turnbull Scholarship, £15: M. Gandar; Turnbull _ Scbolarsliip, £10: D. Harlo; Levin Science Scholarship, £4: B. Lankshear; Levin Language Scholarship, £4: S. Castle. It was to proceed with tho erection of a gymnasium and shelter-shed at the Boys' College.
