FRENCH GIRLS OF TO-DAY.
Writing of the genuine unrest, which has seized on France, as well as other countries, the "Queen" says Only this week there has been much discussion about tho debut of a girl of good family on-the stage. Mile. Dietz Monnin wishes to become a professional actress, after having had a certain success in private comedies. She is not the fir.it girl of good standing who has tried acting as a profession in France by- 1 a good many, and a few have succeeded in making it a success; but tho dangers of it are well known, and the domestic gods of every respectable family in France rise up in ■ horror at tho idea of such a life for tho women under their protection. It was hard enough for the vioillo noblesse to,' see their - daughters go in for sociology , without, tho protection of. the conventual garb; but they have been forced to submit by circumstances, and many unmarried women of ancient race now do fine work among the poorer classes. The difficulty lies with the upper middle class,' which still: dislikes its daughters to emerge'" from the paternal roof unless they go to that of a husband. Then they may dabble in what they will,' so long as they observe the family traditions, which, by tho way, are quite as tyrannical as those of the aristocracy. Probably tho American woman is answerable for a good deal of this unrest among the daughters of France, - for sho comes among them with all sorts of daring projects, and perfectly lovoly clothos. She marries their brothers", studies their art, music, and literature in their country, and she walks serenely on along the path of liberty, to tho amazement of men, angela, and the Pariaienne, .
