A CITIZENS' LEAGUE.
Sir,—When 'in Auckland recently, ' I was informed that thero existed" in that' city a very useful institution, in tho shape of a Citizens' League. This was composed of several thousand burgesses of the city, bound together, with the.-jobject of directing public opinion and guiding - local authorities in affairs, connected with the immediate welfare of the inhabitants. We have, in several of the suburbs of/Wellington, what aro known' as ' "Ratepayers' Associations.'' These are doubtless doing excellent work for their different localities. Why should we not possess a leaguo similar to that of Auckland, with an executive committee and branches in the different suburbs ? This would at least tend to stimulate an interest in locaj'affairs,, and create a feeling of security among those who intend making their pernjanont abode in the city.—l am, etc., NATIVE.
