J. Delaney, who is retained as hurdle horseman for the Karamu stable, is working hard to reduco his weight, so that ho will bo able to ride tho stable's jumpers 'in all their engagements. Mr. C. G. Assheton-Smith, owner of Jerry M., Cackler, Holy War, and Rough Pup, four of the candidates in tho Liverpool Grand National Steeplechase, was not satisfied with the weights allotted to Jerry M. and Cackler and in consequence scratched all of his horses. His action has caused much comment in the leading sporting papers at Home. Hermia and Aberbrothock were double winners at tho Danncvirke Racing Club's mooting.

The annual meeting of the Shannon Hack Racing Club takes plaoo on Wednesday next. Wellington racegoers can travel to and from tho meeting in tho. same day.

When Mr. H. F. Chisholm, of Sydney was. in New Zealand last August, he was greatly impressed with the fine horsemanship of A. Oliver's engagements in.the spring would not permit of bis leaving the Dominion, but he recently decided to try his luck in the Commonwealth, and was a passenger for Sydney by tho ltiverina, which left yesterday afternoon, ihe l<eliding jockey has shown spleni fo , rm , du Png the past couplo of years, and should be at the top of tho treo in Australia, where ho has already been engaged to ride Artiltcrie in her engagements Oliver s.mostrimportant wins in New Zealand include the Wanganui Cup on Truce, Mannwatu Cup on Bourrasque, Dunedin Cup oil Ghoorka C.JC.
