A LOCK-OUT.
OWNERS OF LITHGOW IRON WORKS FINED. (Nt TKt.EGiurn—i'litss" jssocutiow—copntionT.) (Rec. March 13, 0.45 a.m.) Sydney, March 12. Tho Industrial Court has given its award in connection with tho information against Messrs. G. • and C. Hoskins, proprietors of tho Lithgow Iron Works, and against C. Hoskins individually, for locking-out their employees on July 9 last. The Court is of opinion that Messrs. Hoskins did not act out of ill-will or with any intention to force tho men'into submission, but from a feeling of annoyance. The Court fined tho firm £50, ■ and C. Hoskins £10, with £10 10s. costs in each case, [Owing to tlio non-pnssing of the Iron Bonus Bill, Messrs. G. and C. Hoskins, owners of the . Lithgow Ironworks, stated that they were working nt a loss, and that they could not continue unless the employees accepted a reduction in mures, to Ijo refunded if and when the Bonus Bill passes. The men refused to accept the reduction, ami the works, on which the township of Lithgow largely depends, were closed down. The employees claimed that this is a lock-out, and on July IS. 1007, the Industrial Disputes Court granted the Crown leave to prosecute Messrs. G. and C. Hoskins, under the Industrial Disputes Act, for closing the works.]
