: : T.he;Makara County Council met yesterday 'misfriiiig,' when there were present: Councillors Bryant (in tho chair), F. H. Hawkins, G. Monk, T. 11. Eastwood, and J. H. Haggcrty. ■■■:'■ ■-■ ■■•■ A resolution of sympathy with the sufferers by the Penguin disaster was adopted. It was resolved that all Maori rates when due should be collected, as provided by tho 'Act. •■•■■•■
In regard to tho roading of tho Hawtrey Estate, it was decided that a deputation should wait upon the Engineer for Roads and point out to him that tho £100 grant, for which the council had applied, had been made to the Johnsonville . Town Board, vthougli "■■ that body, had nothing to do with the,', reading of' the', estate. . The tender of/Mr!-Greer, at £235 10s., was' •'accepted for the erection of a new bridge at .'Pdrirua. ■■ ..
