Tlio Wairarapa Licensing Committeo met at Carterton on Tuesday, Mr. W. P. James presiding. Formal business was transacted, and three transfers of licenses wero granted, viz., the Tauhcrinikau Hotel from A. C. Nitz to Traill (temporary transfer); Club Hotel, Maryborough, District Official Assignee in the bankrupt ostato of T. D. H. M'Guiro to C. I>. l'riest; Grcytown Hotel, Mrs. Clara Smith to Henry Collins. At a meeting of tho 'fotara Lodge, U.A.0.D., on Monday evening, Bro. J. j\l. Nicholls tendered his resignation as V.A.8., having been elected district president, and Bro. W. Toomalh was appointed to the vacancy. Following is tho Ahinkouka cricket team to play Carterton on ThursdayHawko (2), Feast (3), Everitt, Cundy, Leppien, Williams (4). A sitting of the Magistrate's Court was hold here on Tuesday, when William Corlctt was lined 2s. Gd., and costs lis., for having allowed a dead horse to become offensive to tho public. The horse had been buried close to tho roadway, and dogs had uncovered it. A line of 75., and costs 10s., was inllicted upon Francis Washbourno for riding a motor-cyclo at night without a light. In tho case of Jas.'Callister v. Daniel Flynn, charged with using obscene language, defendant was bound over to keep the peace in £10, and one surety, and ordered to pay expenses, 7s. A. W. Itussell, bricklayer, sued Chas. - Diamond, claim £9 2s. for trespass and damage to property, by dismantling a scaffolding to get somo of his timber that had been used in tho construction of it. Judgment was givon for £1 10s., and costs £1 145., against defendant, whom the Magistrate considered had exceeded his | rights in removing tho standing scaffold.

The funeral of tho late Mr. George Burnett, which took placo oil Tuesday afternoon, was largely attended, tho interment being at tho Clareville cemetery. Tho service at the grave was conducted by tho Rev. L. Thompson.
