PAHIATUA.

The Pahiatua County Council held its monthly meeting on Saturday. A notice from the Stock* Inspector desiring the clearance of certain noxious weeds was referred to the County Engineer. in responso to a complaint from Mr. George Cox, it was decided to call the ranger's attention to the matter of wandering stock in the Hinemoa district. A resolution was passed, in respect to a communication from the Commissioner of Crown Lands, objecting to the Crown' 'closing portions of two roads, and including them in tho new cemetery site. Tho ground of objection was that the closing of Puketoi Street would also close the access to several sections. Tho Chiof Surveyor wrote, stating that tho Department of • Lands had agreed to purchase from Mr. 'T. P. Girdwood about 3i acres, to give access to certain Crown lands, and asking the council's sanction. to the sale. This was agreed to. Tho District Health Officer's report was satisfactory, only 0110 case of infectious disease (which had been isolated) being reported. Tho report was adopted, as was also the report of tho County Engineer, Mr. G. S. Milno, on the various works in the district. A statement of the balances of the various ridings showed credits to Pukihinau of £315 Us. yd., Mangaono £409 2s. 9d., and debits against Mangahao of £329 2s. 2d., Puketoi £813 15s. 7d., and Makuri £219 lis. sd. Mr. J. Elliners waited upon tho council, and asked to have tho road leading to his farm repaired, stating that tho metal had been worn through. The matter was referred to the engineer to act. A motion to spend a sum on repairing Mr. J..Breed's road was lost, tho council considering that tho state of the balance for tho riding in which tho road is situated did not warrant the expenditure. The engineer was instructed to expend tiio accrued thirds on clearing the Mount Marchnnt lioad of slips, from Mount Butters to Mr. G. \V. Itoss's residence. A discussion aroso as to the quality of tho metal being quarried for the Makuri Road, and, after hearing tho County engineer and tho contractor, it was resolved that the Government Engineer be asked to meet tho representatives for the riding, and tho County Engineer, to discuss tho matter and report at an early date to the council. A motion >to spend the balance of tho money voted for repairing Tylee's Ford at Makuri was lost, after somo discussion. With regard to tho metalling of tho road between Kaitawa and Hinemoa, the engineer was instructed to proceed with tho necessary work before the wet season set in.
