WELLINGTON ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Next Saturday the Wellington Amateur Athlotic Club will hold its, annual autumn carnival. . Always an important fixture, this meeting' has acquired .additional interest' on this occasion on account of the'proximity of the New Zealand championships, which are dated for the following Saturday,- at Dunedin. Taking advantage this fact, the selection committee of tho local centre has arranged for several trials of likely championship competitors for the purpose of assisting them in making the final selection of the representative team. ,'The most important of these contests is an invitation quarter mile, in which the folfowing championship aspirants have been invited to competeß. J. Williams (Wanganui), I'. Stubbs (Palmerston North), J. Wilton (Wellington provincial champion), and E. E. Fisher, present 220 yards champion of New Zealand. Thjs should provide one of the best races seen on. the Basin Reserve, as all (the competitors are runners of note, and inclusion in the team depends on the result. E. J. • Williams, of Wanganui, and A. E.' Burge,' New Zealand mile champion, will also be brought together in the half-mile run, and Fitzgerald, tho local walker, will be given a "try-out" over the walking distances.
