Otherwise the announcements cannot ,be published.] , Weddings, ' At St. Mark's on Saturday afternoon, Miss Olive Stevens, daughter of Mr. J. Stevens, of Hawker Street, and late of the Wairarapa, was married to Mr. A. R. Hislop,jun., son of J Mr. A. R. Hislop, of Kclburne, secretary of the Australasian .Institute of Marine Engineer's. The bride, who was given away by •ner father, wore a charming dress of white chiffon taffetas'i trimmed with some beautiful Maltese lace, with a bridal wreath and veil. She was attended by two bridesmaids —her sisters, Miss Maude and Miss IvyStevens, who wore pretty frocks of crystalline, one of palo blue and the other, of pale green, with hats to match, trimmed with black plumes. Mr. Cyril Lovett (Hobart) was.j'best man, and Mr; Herbert Barrett, groomsman. The Rev. A. M. Johnson officiated. After the wedding d'reception'was held at "Rawene," Hawker • Street, tho residence of the bride's parents. ■ The reception room was decorated with cerise sweet peas and maidenhair ferns, and the tablo was decorated .with white and green. Mrs. Stovens wore a handsome frock of' black chiffon taffeta; Mrs. O'Meara, sister of the bride, wore brown silk; Miss Nellie Stevens, green chiffon taffeta and black plumed hat ; Mrs..A. R. Hislop, sepr., wore a gown of black striped chiffon over white glace, with hat to match; Mrs. C. E. Fordham, a pretty costume of pale blue taffeta silk; Mrs. Francis'wore pink chiffon taffeta. The bride's -.travelling costume was a vieux lose coat and skirt, and a brown hat trimmed with shaded grapes and foliage: On Friday, at the Commercial Travellers' Club, the bridegroom'was presented by a number of his engineering friends with a marblo clock and a silver teapot. The presentation was made by Mr. J. Darling, chairman of the Wellington branch of the Institute of Marine Engineers. Messrs. H. C. Tewsley and J. M'Lean also made complimentary speeches. At St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral, on Friday, 'Mr! C. M. Turrell, son of the late Rev. Charles' Turrell,- M.A., of Christchurch, was married'.to Miss E. M.. M'Call, daughter of ■ the late. Mr. Thomas M'Call, Melbourne. It was extremely quiet, only a few guests being present. Miss M'Call; who, with ber sister, has, been living some time'in Wellington, is a sister of' Mrs. Norman Perston, who was Mrs. Bucklehurst. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Perston do not intend to return to New Zealand.- Ho has an appointment in the Bank of New Zealand, Sydney. . . CarUen Party at Island Bay. . The garden party , held at Mrs. Keene's at -Island Hay on Saturday afternoon, in aid of,the, funds of'the .Young Women's Christian Association, .proved! a great success, both'as' regards the number of the visitors and their enjoyment of the afternoun.There, wero. croquet and' tennis, for those . who ,wanted .something more active than a stroll about the beautiful grounds and gay gardens. There was also a little concert programme, to which items were contributed by the Misses. Marjorie and Kitty Butler, Miss Whyte, Miss Sewell, Miss Bell,. and Mr. Williams, and a book competition created a'great deal of interest. i Miss Lawson . had made a number of sketches, and the guests had to guess what' book titles these represented. The first prize was won by Miss Dick, the second by Miss Ashman. Among those. present were Mrs. Hoby, the ' Misses M'Lean, Mrs. M'Clay, 'Mrs. Chapman,. Mrs. Reith, Mrs. George, Mrs. Kreeft, Mr. and Mrs. Clarke r Johnson, and the Misses Evans. Wellington Bowling Club. : • From a social point of view, as well as from the players', Saturday was a big day at the Wellington Bowling Club's green. Representatives from all the other city and suburban clubs tried conclusions with Wellington, and many ladies went down to watch t the contest. _ Afternoon tea'was provided by the ladies in tho pavilion • upstairs, which was gaily decorated with flowers and with the colours of the club. Mrs. Grundy was in charge of the tea. Pakakura-Hockey Club. In the Oddfellows' Hall, Featherston, on Friday-afternoon, the members of. the Pakakura ladies'' Hockey Club entertained Miss Cundy, their secretary, at a knick-knack tea. During the afternoon.Mrs^Palmer, on behalf of the club, of which she is a vice-president, presented Miss Cundy with a beautiful little egg-cruet, with pepper .and salt stand, as a small mark of the club's appreciation of her services. ' The afternoon was very pleasantly spent with games of all kinds, and several cotapetitions were held, the successful competitors being Miss M'Kenzie, Miss England, Miss Rowe, and Miss Tait. Miss Cundy's marriage is to take place next Saturday. • Masterton Notes. . Mrs. Donald, of "Waione," is spending a few weeks at Castlepoirit. ■ Mrs. Fred. Lewis has accompanied her sisteiy Mrs. Cooper, to Queensland. Miss Constance Tully ( is visiting friends in Masterton. 1 ; , Mrs. A. H. 'Wrightson, who has boen spending a few days at Castlepoint, has returned home.' The marriage of Miss Ethel Bennett to Mr. iY\ addy will take place next month. Miss Effie Booth, of Carterton, and Miss Morrison, of Blairlogio, left by the Marama on Friday afternoon for Sydney. They will proceed later to England. Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Mason, well-known Masterton residents, intend shortly to take an extended holiday trip to England. Mrs George Ormond and Miss Ormond, erf Toorak, Melbourne, are visitors to Wellington at present. . , ' Mrs. E. B. Phipson, of Brighton, England, waves this morning for a month's tour of the Hot Lakes district. Miss M. M a therson, of Macdonald Crescent, returned to town by Saturday evening's train, after a five weeks' visit to Mrs. James Knight, of Feildingi and Wanganui. Miss Bertha Olemsen, at present assistant mistress at Reikorangi, is resigning her. position under tho Wellington Education Board to take up new duties as sole teacher of Denbigh school, under the Tnranaki Education Board. \ Mr. and Mrs. Robinson, -of Picton, are i visiting Mr. and Mrs. Tregear, Mrs. Robinflon's parents. Mrs. Tregear returns with \them this week. Yesterday 'afternoon, . at the Y.W.C.A.,1 Miss M'Lean gave a very interesting description of her visit to Jerusalem. At the annual meeting of the Gleaners' Union, which is to be held on Thursday, Mrs. Wallis .will givo an account of riiissionary work as reported to ' the PanAuglican Congress. '
