EVENING SPORTS.
On ,the Petono Recreation Ground last evening, two events were held- under the auspicos of the J.C. Athletic Club. The first was a 100 yards handicap, in which there wero 17 starters. It resulted as follows:— First heat: Mould (9yds.) 1, Eraser (syds.) 2; second heat: M. R.vau (9yds.) 1, Thomson (syds.) 2; third heat: G. Miller (11yds.) 1, Smith (Byds.) 2; final: M. Ryan 1, Mould 2, Fraser 3. Time, 10 l-sscc. Tho second race was a milo walk, and the field numbered IG. The result was: Nankivell (10yds.) 1, Mahoney (scr.) 2, Mould (10yds.) 3. Time, Smin. 29sec.
The next contests will bo on March 27, when two races will bo held—l2o yards and mile. Later on it is intended to arrange for a Saturday afternoon meeting, at which the events will be open to Wellington and other athletes.
