WEDNESDAY MATCHES. , Fair scoring marked the matchcs played at the Basin Reserve yesterday, the duel between bat and ball not* being remarkable tor any particular advantage either way. An oven strugglo appears to bo in progress between Union and Oriental, the latter requriing to make 93 runs for tho six wickets stiil to fall. As, however, Union have their score actually "on the book," while the bulk of Union's total is still in prospectu, they have, on tho whole, • better position. The batting of these teams was " spotty," seven batsmen were bright, spots, whilf} .othors proved not so bright, and thrco failed to trouble the scorers at all. Rivals, with a score of 119, seem to hold a better position than T.M.C.A, whose last four batsmen will ba required to achieve 53 runs if their side is to win. Details are as follow:— UNION v. Regarding tho Southland Cricket Association's request that the New Zealand Cricket Council should allow tho Otago v. Southland match to be played as arranged, and that action ba suspended until the association states its case to the council, as the association has very serious reasons • for asking that tho disqualification of the three Southland players be removed, the management committee of the council at a special meeting decided: "That this council adheres to its decision as contained in the resolution passed at the meeting held on December 17 last, and that the Southland Cricket Association be again advised that members of the South Caledonian Society may play in matches under the jurisdiction of the Southland Cricket Association by resigning their membership of the Southland Caledonian Society." v
