Labour members in tho House of Commons sharply attacked tho administration of tho ■Unemployment Act by tho President of tho Local Government Board,- Mr. John Burns. They alleged that Mr. Burns's policy was ungenerous. Mr. E. H. Pickcrsgill (Labour member for Bethnal Green) expressed tho opinion that tho women workers of London were not fairly dealt with as compared with tho men. Mr. Burns justified his refusal to sanction tho establishment of a farm colony for women on tho ground that it would bo useless to transfer charwomen to such a colony, at a cost of £200 apiece, to teach them market gardening. The Minister declared that ho had mado grants and sanctioned loans wherever he was satisfied that such were necessary.
