Aγ.thrilling incident occurred . at■ -■■ Crewe Station: .'.An,express' to Euston, heavily laden with, traffic/ was .leaving ■ the station on ..its long run of 158 miles without a stop, when.' a gentleman, commenced a race, with '. the express, .which was. increasing its:speed rapidly. The. gentleman was apparently determined to board the train, and he made.one or two; attempts ".to. grip the handles of the. compartments. Horrified officials made desperate- efforts to .pull him away, but he got clear of them and mado a leap on to a footboard. He succeeded in catching'hold-of the rail at the end'of one of/the* vehicles.' By this time the train had left tho station ,and had.plunged into darkness. No signal could Ibe given to have it stopped until it reached the next station, when it would bo running ■at almost, a mile a minute.. The night, was cold, and when the train was stopped at Betlcy, the man .was .still clutching ! the. .rail. He had a perilous ride.
