Gunning's prize on tlio rille range on Now Year's Day, Mr. W. Shearman was again the successful competitor. The competition was*a handicap one, seven shots at 200. 500, and 600, yards. The prize was a handsome electro-plate' teapot. Mr. Kidd,*' Inspector of Machinery', inspected and gave a certificate for the Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company's engine at Makerua. It is stated that' Messrs. Ross and Redshaw have acquired the mill and the cutting rights 'of the green leaf." ' The local cricket club were,,defeated by WadesEoTvn on New Year's Day, at, Shannon. In tho first innings the clubs played thirteen men aside, and the visitors scored 131, the local players responding with 60. The highest score for Wadestown was 42, by. It. Moggett, while/ TV.
