SWIMMING

THE WELLINGTON CENTRE. The annual meeting of the Wellington centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association was hold in Armit's Rooms; last evening, Mr. T. Ronayne presiding. The report congratulated, clubs on the all-round success of the season. At the championship carnival the 100 yds, was won by Fred Roberts and the 440 yds. by li. C. Freyberg. 0. H. Capper -won the schoolboys' championships, and tho schoolgirls' champion-.! ships were carried off by > Miss I. Chappie., Thirty-two boys qualified for proficiency certificates during the season. Tho Swifts Club, won the provincial and tho Now Zealand, polo championships. The committee express their surprise that the Government grant was not available during the season. Thanks are extended to Messrs.'T. Shields, A. A. Somerville, A. Smith, J. P. Firth, W. B. Smith, Geo. Sadd, and A, Donaldson. The balancesheet showed a credit of £1 7s. Bd. for the competitive branch, and £37 9s. Id. for tho humano branch. The adoption of the report and balance-sheet was agreed to. The olection of officers for tho ensuing season resulted as follows: —President, Mr. T. Ronayne; .vice-president, Dr. Chappie; chairman, Mr. A. L. Ludwig; hon. secretary, .Mr. A. M. Adams; hon. treasurer, Mr. J. Stephens; consul,.Mr. T. Shields; handicapper, Mr. W. B. Smith; polo referee, Mr. Geo. Sadd; auditor, Mr. E. J. Fleming; delegate to New Zealand Council, Mr. A. Donaldson; vice-president to New Zealand Council, Mr. ,T. Ronayne. • It' was decided; to open the season at the Thorndon Baths on November 20. • Two races will take place—one for seniors and one for schoolboys, each of 50yds. Prizes will be: Senior, £1 Is.'and 10s. Gd.; and schoolboys, 13s. and Bs. Mr. Ronayne will give £1 Is. of tho prize-money, and Mr. Ludwig 10s. 6d.
