PERSONAL ITEMS.

The Prime Minister, who is in the South, travels northwards as far as Christchurcli to-day, en route for Wellington. The Hon. J. A. Millar remains in Dunedin, the Hon. R. M'Nab in Southland, the Hon. J. Carroll In Poverty Bay, the Hon. J. M'Gowan at tho Thames, and the Hon. G. Fowlds at Auckland. _ The Hon. Hall-Jones aid the Hon. Dr. Findlay are in Wellington.

The Rev. C. E. Ward will leave early next weeki on a week's visit to Stratford. s

The Hon. Dr. Collins, M.L.C., leaves on a trip to England in the first week of December, ' :

Mr. Geo. Hatch, of Melbourne, general manager for Tlios. Cook and Sons for Australasia, left for, Sydney by the Moeraki yesterday.

Mr. Waldegrave John Cracroft Wilson, solicitor, Petone, was admitted as a barrister of the Supreme Court by Mr. Justice Cooper, on the motion of Mr. H. H. O'Leary.

The Governor'of German Samoa (Dr. Solf) and his wife are expected to arrive in Auckland to-morrow. Dr. Solf is on his way back to Samoa from a trip to Germany.

Tho Hon. Dr. Findlay, Attorney-General, and Mr. W. H. Field, M.P., have been reappointed by the Government as its representatives on the Board of Governors of Wellington College.

The Governor of Fiji (Sir Everard ,im Thurn) left Suva on Wednesday for England, via Sydney. Ho stated that he did not know whether he would return to tho colony, but that ho wished to do so if circumstances permitted.

• Mr. J. A. Harris, the local secretary for the Yorkshire' Society, was recently seized with a fainting fit at his home, when he fell heavily to the floor, sustaining slight concussion of the brain, from the effects of which he is slowly recovering. ,

Lieut. H. T. C. Knox (late R.N.), organising lecturer for the. Navy League, who is due from London by the Corinthic on Tuesday next has, really, undertaken .theStHp' because he has been run down, but he has (so runs a letter to the local secretary, Mr. C. Palmer) permission to deliver four lectures in the Dominion, and i,t"is" assumed that one will be delivored in each .of the four centres. He has with hira a fine' lot of lantern slides,with which to illustrate his lectures. Lieut. Knox is defraying tlie .whole of the expenses of the trip himself.

The Rev. David Russell, of South Africa, who is touring the Dominion in the interests of the Y.M.C.A., will arrive in Wellington by this evening's express, having travelled from Auckland via the Main 'Trunk railway. The visitor, who is said to be a talented and forceful speaker, is to conduct a series'of meetings next week, commencing at the Y.M.C.A. building at 4 p.m. to-morrow. In the evening he will preside at the Primitive Methodist anniversary service at the Town Hall, and from Monday to Friday will address meetings in tho Assembly Hall of the Y.M.C.A. on a variety of'interesting topics.

A presentation was made to Mr. L. S. Bridge by the staff of the A.M.P. Society last evening, the occasion being Sir. Bridget retirement from the inside staff to represent the society in the field. The presentation was made by Mr. Edmonds, chief of the new business department, who, in a happy speech, wished Mr. Bridge_ success, and spoke of the high esteem in which the recipient was held amongst his fellow officers. Mr. Bridge suitably replied, expressing his regret at severing his connection with so many good fellows on the inside staff, but stating that he considered the slight prospects of advancement warranted his transfer to the outside field.

Mr. William Doig Robertson, brother of Mr. David Robertson, of this city, died yesterday at ' Alicetown. from pneumonia, "following on rheumatic fever. . The late Mr. Robertson,_ who was 60 years of age, had been associated in business with his brother for about 25 years. He was not a public but about 18 years ago contested the Wellington- seat, and was defeated by the late Sir. George Fisher. The deceased gentleman was never married. At the meeting of the Technical School Board last evening leave of absence was granted to ; Mr. D. Robertson, and the cha.irman - (Mr. J. P. Luke) referred to his bereavement. A motion was passed expressing the sympathy of the board with tho deceased's relatives.

Mr. W. S. Short, chief clerk of the Roads Department, will commence an inquiry ; at Kaikoura on November 10, with ■ a view to apportioning the cost of the control and maintenance of the Clarence Bridge between' the Kaikoura and Amuri counties .and theAwatere and other road boards. On November 19 he will hold an inquiry at Waipukurau, concerning the adjustment of accounts between the Waipukurau. Dannevirke, and Waipawa counties and the Waipawa borough. On November '25 an inquiry will be opened at Okato touching the cost of maintenance of tho Puniho Road, which runs between the Parihaka and Werckino road districts, and on December 1 the commissioner will sit at Cambridge to adjust accounts between the Pukeknra Town Board and the Leamington Road Board.
