The returns of the values of the exports and imports of New Zealand for the .September quarter, were published in. the Gazette issued last night. The exports for the quarter amounted to. <£2,884,290, as compared with <63,251,452 for the corresponding period" of last year, there was thus a shrinkage of <£376,162, equal to a little more than 111 per cent. The total of the imports for the quarter was .£5,106,071, as against <£4,820,953, an increase of. .£285,118, equal to nearly 8 per cent.. . . The exports under their several. headings Compare as under:— Sept., ICOB. Sept., 1907. - ,-C ' £ " '. The figures for four years compare as under: Year ended Imports. Exports. ' Sept. 30. . ' £ 1905 ; 12,596,736 15,674,136 1906 14,516,252 ■ 17,734,798 .' .- ' 1907 '....16,897,932 19,984,272 1908-.... .18,021,426 16,334,173 . And the Review says:—lmports show for the year an increase of <£1,679,000, and exports, a decrease of JC3,521,000, ■ a total difference of <£5,200,000, and it is to be feared that the results are even worse than this, as much of the wool exported . is certainly overvalued. A year ago exports exceeded, imports by <£3,820,000. This year it is imports that are in excess by X 1,380,000. The Customs revenue collected at' Welling- ' ton yesterday-amounted to '.£1790 16s. 7d." .
