MIRAMAR BOROUGH COUNCIL.
FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. ' The Miramar Borough Council met last night, there being present: The Mayor (Mr. C. J. Crawford), and Councillors Witt, East, M'Leod, Brodie, Bell, and Cooper." The Works- Committee of the council recommended: —(1.) That in lieu of paying compensation for the taking of part Section 164 for tramway, purposes, steps be erected near tho junction of Ira Street and. Broadway as access: to the Golf Terrace. Block; (i!i that.a right-of-way through the block-be sanctioned subject to approved plans and specifications; (3) that on sufficient land fir a 06ft. street being dedicated at the drainage reserve between Townsend Road and. May Street, the street be taken over by the council; (4) that half cost of a concrete wall along the frontage of section 2 and part 3, block 2, Overton, be borne by tho council; (o) that is is not advisable to place the matter of expending £10,312 on. the extension of tho Seatoun tramway t-o Aiva Road before tho ratepayers at present,. but that the matter bo kept in view. The< recommendatiqns were adopted. Councillor M'Leod was appointed delegate for tho council at tho statutory election of representatives of local bodies on the Board of Trustees of the Benevolent Institution. The engineer was instructed to furnish a report on Mr. E. W. Hornabrook's application regarding damage to his property. The, seal of the council was authorised to be affixed to tho agreement with Mr. J. J. Devine covering the taking over of part of Coutts Street. The Mayor explained that this matter was now practically settled, there now 'remaining only an amount of £3"5 in connection with the Watts Peninsula Land Company's interest in tho negotiations. Tho (formal resolution regarding the poll of tho ratepayers for,the authorisation of tho loar of £5000 in connection with the' Wellington' Harbour Evans Bay works was put and carried. The Mayor announced that since the last meeting of t he council, an assessment had been made of the properties 'affected! and lie was pleased to report that the landowners concerned had in every case agreed to tho assessment. The speedy settlement of 'this phase of the enterprise was very gratifying. As a direct jsubsidy from the assessments a sum of £1550 would be available ; added to this was a probable sum- of £1000 in'connection with the laying of rails and tolls. It" had, however, been ; decided to ask the ratepayers for the full amount although "there would bo no necessity, ho thought, »of calling it up. The poll 'could now go forward, and-could take place about December 1 14 next —well within the 1 three months' period. In case of an advorsb'\ote they could take a further poll within sis mouths. 1
