PROTEST FROM WELLINGTON SCHOOLS. As previously repdrted in.Tee Dominion, tho Wellington Headmasters' Association forwarded a series of resolutions to the Education Board, in prptest against being called upon, without being previously consulted, to participate in public demonstrations of the "Dominion Day" order. These resolutions were considored at the board's meeting yesterday. Curiously enough, bracketed with the protest on the order paper, was a flattering eulogium from tho Prime Minister, expressing his warmest appreciation of the efforts of the teachers on "Dominion Day." The Prime Minister's panegyric was laid on tho table.'and .the headmasters' protest waa then read. " '
The chairman, Mr. Lea, said that the teachers had not been consulted beforehand, and" had been rather disappointed in consequence ' _ , Captain M'Donald did not agree that they had not been consulted. Were they going to be placed in tho position of- having ■ to consult the teachers on anything the board was going to carry out? The chairman said that "Dominion Day'* and other similar celebrations were hardly within tho scope of the teachers' professional duties.' In these cases they asked to bo consulted before being committed in any way. . Captain M'Donald pointed out that the board, in the person of the chairman and himself, had consulted the teacherß at a preliminary meeting, and at that conference every headmaster had been present but one. Mr. Lee explained . that the teachers thought that the matter had been referred to them rather late in the ! day. • •
Mr. j .G. W. Aitken moved that the letter be received. The- motion was seconded and carricd.
