PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals met yesterday in the Chamber of Commerce. Present: Mr. J. Ilott (iii the chair), Mesdames Christie, and Kernot, Messrs. J. S. Jameson, W. Watson,' and J. M. Richardson.
The meeting accorded a .vote of thanks to the following for donations:—Dr. Ross, 10s.; Messrs. G. Tripe, Palmer, C. J. Hollard, W. Mowbray, and John -Young, and Mrs. J. Duncan, os. each ; Mrs. Colo, Messrs. Home, Beddingfield, Griffiths, Jones,' W. Inglis, Stutter, J. Cotton, Ballaehy, 1 ■ Yeats, W. Parker, .British Woollen Co., Two Friends, "Chronicle" Office, 5.C.8., 2s. 6d. each; Mrs. Priest, 25.; total £4 2s. - The inspector reported ■on a number- of cases of cruelty to horses.
Members commented cn the reluctance of witnesses to tell their tales-in court. If some of the people who - saw cruelties perpetrated would come forward, and a few cases could be taken before the magistrate, it would be an effeotive deterrent.
