Hearst (founder of the Indepcndenco League) claims that his first batch of purchased lotters will set firo to more prominent official reputations. The letters, he says, show that Mr. John D. Archbold, of the Standard Oil Trust, recommended judicial appointments, which had since been made, and had also sent.Mr. Elkin, Supremo Court Judge of Pennsylvania, when ho was Attorney-General, £3000, with a viow to inducing him to kill a measure then before the State Legislature. _ Judgo Elkin denies that ho received money improperly or for influencing any legislation.
