Mr. Georgo Wyndham ... 826 Mr.' Winston Churchill 727 Professor Osier ••• 614 The Unionist heads tho list in each case, with a Liberal Minister second, and—in the caso of Glasgow—Labour a bad third. Lord Curzon, the new rector of Glasgow University (in succession to the Liberal Prune Minister, Mr. Asquith), is also chancellor of Oxford University. Mr. George Wyndliara's predecessor ' in the rectorship of Edinburgh is Mr. Haldauo, Minister for AVar. In 3902, Mr. Wyndham was elected rector of Glasgow University. Lord Curzon, who is noted chiefly for his Asiatic writings and his work as Viceroy of India, returned to England in 1905, having quarrelled with Lord Kitchener. As ho' was disinclined to enter the House of Commons, and hod at that time no seat in the Lords, the public knew him chiefly last year as chancellor • of his university, Oxford, whose impecunious state called for vigorous efforts to raise a fundefforts which Lord Curzon willingly gave. ' Mr. George Wyndham, formerly Unionist Chief Secretary for Ireland, afler seeing active service in the Coldstream Guards, began a political career as Mr. Balfour's private secretary. He. secured a safe seat at Poxer, and in 1803 was made Under-Secretary for . War, mid ho entered the Cabinet in August, 1902. In 1903 he succeeded, in face of heavy odds, in getting the.'reaf Irish Lund Act passed. Ho resigned in March, 1005.
