ENGLISH BISHOP TO VISIT THE COLONIES. (by TELEGBAPH—PItESS ASSOCIATION—COI'YUIGUT.) London, October 25. Dr. Cosmo Lang, Bishop of Stepney, will visit Australia early in 1909 on a mission to men. [The Bishop ,of Christchurch, Dr. Julius, informed his synod last week that tho Bishop of Stepney had been requested by the New Zealand bishops to extend his visit to the Dominion. Dr. Julius also remarked that Dr. Lang was'one of tho ablest men in England. He is a fine speaker, and has done splendid work in connection with the Church of Eng land Men's Society. Ho has been called "the Apostle of the layman." He was offered the Archbishopric of Melbourne prior to the appointment of Dr. Lowther Clarke, but did not acoopt, as he did not wish to give up his work among the poor in tho East End of London.] (BY TELEGRAPH—riIES-i ASSOCIATION.) Dunedin, October 26. In the course of his address at the opening of tho Anglican Synod to-day the Primate (Bishop Nevill), referring to tho proposed mission from England, said 'lie had received a'letter, from the Bishop of Nelson stating that nothing had yet been settled except that the Bishop of Stepney had signified his willingness to como out next year and do what he could to prepare the way for a larger mission to follow. He (the Primate) had since heard that it was probable that the Bishop of Wellington (Dr. Wallis) would prolong his stay in England in order to make more completo arrangements for tho mission.
