CHRISTCHURCH SYNOD.
• (BI TILIGUAPn —rHRS3 ASSOCIATION.) Christohurch, October 23. At the Christohurch Diocesan Synod' today a letter was received from tho Secretary of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals "asking that the Synod should recommend that an "animal Sunday" should bo set apart on which tho' clergy' should prcach suitable sermons advocating kindness in the treatment of animals. The Bishop said that, while ho was entirely in sympathy with the object of tho society, yet lie had always set his face against setting apart special Sundays for various purposes such as was sufjgested, but he would leave the matter entirely in the hands of the Synod to deal with. It would, require a ; notice of motion before the matter could 'be discussed.
