■ Mr. J. S. Baxter, of Invercargill, who is at ipreSent in the city, addressed a public meeting at Johnsonville, last evening on the result of No-License in Invercargill. He stated ]that tho reform liad been of very great .benefit to the moral life and business of. his city, and tlije citizens were quite confident of jrotaining No-License. The "Trade" advocates (stated the speaker) previous to the carrying .of No-Licenso predicted all kinds of catas'.trophies if , the reform were adopted, but ;strange 'to say not one of their prophecies had come true. Business was considerably better in all classes ; the city was far more iordorly, and the citizens as a whole wero financially better off. The speaker stated that on a recent "Hospital Saturday" in Dunedin tho residents subscribed . £800, Iwhereas in Invercargill, with nowhere near the population of Dunedin, they subscribed £1100. Mr. Baxter also stated that the suffering from alcoholism' 'in the. hospital had decreased by 70 per cent. In conclusion, the speaker said, the reform ..was. a splendid success, and Invercargill citizens were prosperous, and the home life had never been more happy. .
