TRAMWAY FIGURES.
A six-monthly return for the period ended September 30 was submitted, to, the .meeting of the Tramways Committee .of .the.: City Council on Moriday evening.-- -The traffic revenue was shown at £58,900? which is an increase of £0939 by comparison with the corresponding period of lBOZi: M'he total revenue amounted to £67,145,. ns compared with £57,826 last year, an increase of £9919. After providing for interest charges, £10,322,- sinking fund, <£2467; and depreciation, £6750, amounting iirall' t0"£19,540,-the net surplus on the half year's working is £1911, as compared with "a debit balance of '£132 for the corresponding'period of last year. .. ' ■ Every section of tramways showed an increase in the number of. passengers carried, and the total increase shown for tho six months was considerably over a million more' than the figures' for the corresponding half year of 1907. The total passengers carried on the city lines amounted to 10,575,625, or 1,213,640 more than last! year. Kilbirnie line shows an increase of 648,186 passengers; Island Bay, 188,624; Newtown, 132,405; ana Brooklyn, 109,853;. the other" routes showing comparatively small increases in traffic. On city lines, the car" miles run showed increases on all sections,-'-but the-suburban Karori run fell away by 947 miles'/- The total car miles run on city lines were 1,028,406,' and the total on all lines was 1,100,639, being 99,507 miles in excess of the corresponding period in 1907. The average of passengers carried per car mile amounted to 10.28, an increase of .45. The percentage of working expenses to total revenuei is 67 per. cent-., a decrease of 1 per cent. Kilbirnie section produced the greatest increase of revenue during the six months—by virtue of over rail traffic to Miramar and Seatoun—the figures credited to the section being £4005 ss. 4d. Next came Island Bay, £1171 lis. 9d.; Brooklyn, £650 18s. 7U\.; Newtown section, £583 15s. 5d.; then Constable Street, £329 12s. Id.; Oriental Bay, £126 16s. IOJd-j Wallace Street, £69 10s. 2d.; Aro Street, £33 los. sd. The highest amount of revenue taken on any one section was £17,628 16s. OJd., credited to Newtown lines. Island Bay was _next, with £11,434 2s. 7d.; then followed Kilbirnie, with £5453 14s. 5Jd. _
