Deeley) went a mile, solus, in lmin. SOsec. Tupono went once round at a slow pace. Blue Ribbon (S. Reid) went once round, sprinting down the straight. California also did an easy circuit, galloping over tho last •two furlongs in taking style. Sandstream (Griffiths), looking perfect, was'sent a couple of : rounds. ' Kiltie Lass - (F. Cress) and Ambrosian (A. Oliver) were companions in a four-furloiig flutter on the course proper. The former won easily,- the last three furlongs taking 38sec.. Sunhonnet (S. Reid) and Sail. Julie (F. Cress) accounted for a very smart halfmile in 51 1-Sscc. Tho latter's performance gained her many admirers 'for the big race to-day. Moloch and Riflemaid covered six furlongs .in lmin 20 2-ssec. North Head, alone, ran four furlongs in 52 2-osec. Zimmerman and Dawn covered seven furlongs together, the last six taking lmin. 21sec. Xylophone and a full-brother to Dawn were spurted threo furlongs down tho back of th'o course, for which the time was 38Jsec. Xylophone was lame afterwards, and may be uiiablo to race to-day. , Master Delaval, Master Soult, and Elysian. went once round at an easy pace. Elysian then pulled off, and the other two' Went a second round. . Whetumarama (W. Young) went ohe round with, the pace on over tho last four furlongs. 'Paparaehi did two rounds, the !ast one at a strong, gallop. . •' who is. a fine free mover, galloped four furlongs at a good pace, but Provocation, who is still a bit-sore, was only spurted down the straight. . . Sir Antrim and Advantage did half a mile together in. 54 4-ssec. Silken Rein (L. Wilson), carrying about Bst., ran six furlongs alone in lmin. 19sec, This was by far the best gallop of the morning over that particular distance. Waimaria went twice round at half-pace. The Mahaki maro has a big leg, and is not likely to start at the meeting. Lyrist, a trifle sore. also did half-pace work. Master Douglas (Jno. O'Connell) went twico round. . Aorangi,. Bracken. Grenadier, Gipsy Bella, Cork, Moriarty, Jolly Roger; Exmoor, Swimming Belt,' Grand Slam,. Duart, Mallet, Sir Single, Toango, Gleam, Ukraine, Landwem, ai}d a number of others also worked. The owners of Soultline have purchased tho brood mare Castorline, dam of the Toorak Handicap winner. . H. King passed through to Lyttelton yesterday with Tangimoana. The San Fran mare is a perfect picture; and is just in the right condition to undergo a few solid gallops prior to tho New Zealand Cup. King is confident that sho will stay all right, and anticipates that she will run a great race. He informed mo that he had great hopes' of lauding the double until Rangipapa developed strangles. . Tangimoana's full brother, now located at Palmerston North, is going on the Tight way, and will probably be prepared for some of:tho autumn meetings. Aorangi is not engaged at tho Trentham meeting, but will probably bo taken on to the-Riccarton fixture. Official scratchings in connection with the Trentham meeting are King's Lynn for the Wainui Handicap, Chantress for. all engagements. English files to hand give particulars of tho two races won by the New Zealand jockey Hewitt at the Doncastcr meeting in September. In the Rous Plate, of 443 sova., six furlongs, Romany Lass, ridden by Hewitt, beat a very hot favourite in Golden Flight. In the Portland Handicap Plate, of 1005 sovs., five furlongs (twenty starters), Hewitt was first away on The Welkin, and won by a neck after a great finish.
