METHODIST PASTORAL.
PROTEST AGAINST BOLD AND EVIL' LITERATURE. An important Methodist pastoral, issued by the direction of the recent Wesleyan Conference, bearing the signature of the Rev. J. Scott Lidgett (president), and addressed to the Methodist churches throughout Great Britain and Ireland, will shortly be issued (says the London "Daily News" of August 22). It points out that Wesleyan Methodism, in common with other Evangelical Churches, has had a decrease in the returns of membership larger than has been known for some years, and urges tho necessity of taking account of tho settled temper of aloofness, and even alienation, from Christian fellowship too largely present in all sections of society. •
Concern is expressed at the cheap literature that is put in the way of young people, somo of it daringly bold in its evil suggestiveness, and Methodists are urged to Keep pernicious things out of homes and schools by providing what is really good and attractive.
