RUN OVER BY A TRAIN.
Cliristohuroh, October 7. Frederick Clias. Bilson, a middle-aged man; was accidentally killed at' the Ghristchurch Railway Station this morning.. It appears" that.Bilson was a passengers.to."Lytteltoii" by the. 7.20 train. Soon after the" train , .started, a shunter named Ainsworth noticed the sccond carriage give a jolt, and on looking for the causo he saw -the body of a man lying on the line. , The train" was stopped. Death must have, been instantane-. ous. It is stated that.Bilspn was troubled lately over some private, matters, and the police are of the opinion that he committed suicide. . • . - ..... At the inquest, an open verdict was returned. During the evidence it was stated that the man was awaiting trial on a charge of indecent assault. The inquest was the first hold in Christchurch by the coroner nlonc. „ .... t/ .. ■ A man named Geo. Cowens met with : fan accident whilst working on a new building on Lambton Quay yesterday afternoon. It is stated that Cowens was going up in a lift laden with material, when the' lift wiro broko. The lift came to the ground with a rush, and Cowens was picked up, in an viii r ' conscious condition. He was removed to' his homo in an ambulance. A man 'named John Seott'.was .taken to the Lambton Quay Polico Station last evening suffering from a bullet wound' in one of his legs. It appears that Scott was handling a revolver, when it went .off, the bullet lodging in bis leg. Dr. Henry was called in, and extracted the bullet, which had lodged under tho skin. 1
