NEW ZEALAND NATIVES' ASSOCIATION.
• A meeting of the' New Zealand Natives' Association was held at Godber's Rooms last evening, Dr. F. Wallace M'Kenzie presiding. There wero fourteen, present. . Forty new members were elected, several names being, tendered ,as the result of an energetic canvass by A. H. Vile (interim secretary),, whose example, observed the chairman, was worthy of emulation. The .draft set; of rules prepared by the sub-committee appointed for the purpose was read by the- secretary. The qualifications for membership'were stated to bo: — (1)' Born in New Zealand; or (2)' born in the Commonwealth of Australia; or (3) resident in the Dominion for 25 years/ having entered New .Zealand before the age of 15 years. ' . : .....; As explained by the chairman, the 15-year ago. limit aimed at preference for those who, had;served their time in New Zealand, over thoso who might enter at, say, 17 or 18, and had served their timo in another country, 'this" being ono of tho objects of the association. A man who had 'served bis timo in New Zealand would, said Mr. \ r ilc, havo a greater stako in the country. ■> After discussion it was decided to alter tho ago limit from 15 years to 5 years. It was also decided to includo the Now Zealand dependencies with the birth qualification area, and to add: born at sea on the way to New.Zealand,.... ' Tho question of admitting native-born Australians to membership was debated at somo length, it being 'finally resolved to amend that particular clauso of the qualification rule to read: —"Members of tho Australian Natives' Association bearing clearance cards from that Association." An opening function to celebrate tho formation of the association is to bo held shortly.
