FEARS FOR THE SAFETY OF DR.' COOK. Inr TVLFOSirn—rRESS association— coptrwiit.) Nev; Yorkj October o. Dr. Cook, the American explorer; traversed Greenland in February in an attempt to reach the Pole. He was expected to return in June, but no tidirigs have been received of him, and disaster is feared. Last year Dr. .Cook announced from„Etah, on the Greenland coast of Sinith Sound, that life' was prepared to make a "dash" for the Pole from Ellesmere Land, though by a soiriewhat different route from ..that which is being followed by Commander Peary, who recently left Etah on his northward trip, Dr. Frederick Albert Cook was born in 1865 in Sullivan County, Now York. Ho was surgeon of the Peary Arctic Expedition 1891-2, and also of the Belgian Antarctic Expedition 1897-99.
