A WAIMARINO DEPUTATION.
A deputation of settlers in the Kirikau and North Waimarino block waited on the Wei* lington Land Board at last meeting praying that their rentals be reduced, or that a permanent remission of rent be given. This land was, in the opinion of the deputation, over-valued when offered for selection, and by the subsequent fall in the value of wool and other produce, the selectors were unable successfully to carry out their undertaking. The board'resolved:—"That having gone into this matter most carefully and giving full consideration to the circumstances surrounding the whole matter, viz., the ballot for the land amongst over 1700 applicants, only thirteen months ago, the steps now being' taken by the Department of Roads to give access to the different holdings, the precedent that would bo established if.the wishes of tho deputation were acccdcd to, as also the conditions under which rebate can bo granted under Section 117 of the Land Act, 1908, tho board regrets that it cannot; seo its way to recommend the Hon. the Minister for Lauds to grant any rebate in the cases under consideration, but the board is prepared to give' settlers a reasonable time in which to meet' tho demands for rent in the event of its being found inconveni nt to make tho ordinary payments on the ' dua dates."
