LEVIN.
Although wo have only had a week or so .of summer-like weather in this district, some of the farmers are already crying out for .rain. . Tho fishing season has opened in this district, . but,. as yet, beyond ono catch of about fifteen fish, bags out of the ordinary aro not reported. So far, thero have been fifteen licenses issued locally. A very successful social and dance was held at Manakau on Thursday night by the Hui Mai Football Club. Dancers were present in largo numbers from all the surrounding districts. During the evening tho Horowhenua Rugby Union junior banner was presented by Mr. J. C. Burns to tho Hui Mai junior fifteen.. The samo gentleman also presented a modal to Mr. J. Anderson for the best back plnj - in senior .matches, and another medal to Mr. R. George for best. forward play. Mr. W. Bovan, jun., who received the banner on behalf of the Hui Mai Club, suitably responded. After an : excellent supper had been dono justice to, dancing was kept ap till a very late hour.
