Levin—ln Century Hall, MONDAY, October 12. .6913 ~ ~ —. | rjpO THE . ELECTORS \ OF MANAWATU. ( Ladies and Gentlemen,— In announcing my candidature for this important Electorate, as a supporter of the Ward Government, at the .forthcoming November Election,. and in soliciting. your. suSrages on that occasion, I do so labouring under one disadvantage. Unlike one of my competitors I have not previously been a> member of tho House of Representatives, and if you do me the honour to accept my services you have to take me to a certain extent on trust. ' But, | ladies and gentlemen, to everything there must be a beginning. The. vacancies left by death and resignation could not in the long run be filled'up, if the newcomers were for ever re- ' fused a.hearing and a trial, therefore, I have to seek to convince you of, since I have no past Parliamentary services to' plead, is that among newcomers I need not be ranked as unworthy' of your trust and confidence. I wish to impress on the electors that 1 support tho Government policy, and that 1 approve of their general administration. From my past addresses, which have been circulated throughout the electorate, and from .fresh speeches to be made during tho present campaign, it will be patent to you what are the several planks of my platform. I may here state that I fully recognise that the futuro Government of' this Dominion requires the indisputable energy and progressive enterprise, combined with prudence, which the Liberal •Administration has displayed for seventeen years. ■ My qualifications for the position of , your representative, apart from the right of every elector to offer himself as a candidate for your suffrages, are, I venture to hope, sufficient. For many years I have occupied responsible positions in. the Now Zealand Civil Service, endihg with tho appointment of Government Life Insurance Commissioner, and I have since held high business appointments in London and New York. Ihnve, as many of you aro aware, studied political science—theoretically and < practically—in a number of different countries. I have also had the honour of serving you in local matters and in municipal politics—l trust I may assumo satisfactorily, judging from the 1 positions I have attained at successive poll- i ings. ' 1 This experience, it cannot bo disputed, must ; fit its subject for dealing in a spirit of forethought with legislative and administrative measures calculated to promote the benefit of tho Manawatu electorate (in which are my heart and my interests), and of tho Dominion as a whole.—l have the honour to be, Ladies and Gentlemen, Your obedient servant, F. W. FRANKLAND. 6976 ... TO ARCHITECTS. i THE NAPIER WORKING MEN'S CLUB Offers ONE HUNDRED GUINIi-VS for ' the BEST DESIGN for a. NEW CLUB BUILD- ' ING, to cost not exceeding ,£IO,OOO.
