CAUSE OF IRELAND.
APPEAL TO AMERICA. A CANDID NEW YORK CRITIC. I —— IRISH DEPENDENCE ON OUTSIDE AID. (ill TELEGBArn—riIESS ASSOCIATION—coriBiant.) (Rec. Octobcr 1, 11.35 p.m.) New York] October 1. Quoting the expressed belief of Mr. John Dillon (Nationalist member for East Mayo)— that tho Irish cause, if killed in America, will soon dio in Ireland—tho "New York Sun" comments: 1 " If Mr. Dillon is right, it must be mortifying'to Irish enthusiasts to recognise that in all their endeavours they must still bo dependent on outsiders. " It is excusable if some outsiders are apt to conclude that tho misery of tho Irish people is somewhat exaggerated, or - that confidence in their political representatives is in nowise universal among them." The "Sun's" suggestion that Ireland has no confidence in her political representatives re calls the expressed principles of Sinn Fein, which declares that any !oim of political representation at Westminster is useless to Ireland; and that Ireland's salvation lies in being self-contained and in unofficially governing her self. A New York cablegram of September 16 stated:— "Tho Sinn Fein League of America has appealed to Irish Americans to refuse to contribute to the mission of.llr. Redmond and Jlr. Devlin to America, because the .£25,000 annually expended upon Nationalist members is useless, and tends to denationalise the Irish people."
