[BT ,T*t*BBArH~PE*S3 ASSOCIATION.) . ■ ■ Hokitika, September 30., Mr. James formerly crier of tho Supreme Court, died m the Westland hospital yesterday. : Auckland, September 30. Sub-Inspector Gordon, of the Auckland police, died to-day, after a short .illness. Woodvllle, September 30. Mr. John Fabian, who has been landlord of the Club Hotel for four and a half years, died, this afternoon. Deceased was in business at.Greytown for twenty-five years, and the funeral will be held there on Friday. ' Chrlstchurch, September 30. Mr. R. Gv Deans, a momber of the first "All Black" football team that visited England in 1905, died to-day; from appendicitis. The death is announced from Picton of Captain John Peek, aged 81 years. Captain Peek was one of the oldest master mariners in tho Dominion, having gained his certificate in 1852. He arrived in New Zealand over 50 years ago in the Lord Ashley, of which ho was'first mate, Captain Wheeler and the late Mr. Tom Webster being two .of his shipmates. For some years he captained vessels round tho Now Zealand coast, and, when the Wakamarina rush broke out, ho joined in the search for gold with varying success. • Tiring of this, he, took up survey work in tho Rai Va.lley, and also telegraphline work. When the railway line between Picton and' Blenheim was first commenced, Mr. Peek assisted in the construction work, and, upon its completion, he had the honour of acting as guard on the first train to cntor Blenheim. Ho continued in tho railway service for 19 years, retiring into private life in 1891.
