At the Petone Baptist Church last night the Rev. T. A. Williams; commenced a series of lcctures of Church history,, and in a very able manner gave a rapid survey of the first five centuries, also pointing out what was owed to the Reformation. ■ • The annual meeting of tho Petone Cricket Club was held in tho upstair room of the Oddfellows'. Hall. on Monday, evening. Dr. Ross (president) was in the-chair. Mr. T. Taylor was presented with the ■ president's troj)hy for the best batting averago in the Seniors. It was decided to enter a team for the Wednesday competition if there are enough players. Twelve new,members were elected.' The following officers: were elected for the coming year President, Dr. Ross (re-electetfj; vice-presidents, iJrs. Harding and l'erry,'Messrs. A. Nuttall, A. Coles, J. Lynsky, Aplin (2), H. Young, C. F. Priest,' H. Palmer, H. Rowo, G. Reale, T. M, Wilford, M.P., H. Ryder,, B. C. Warnes, I£. Brocklebank, Rev. J. D. Russell, R. W. Shortt, and his Worship the Mayor; secretary, Mr. E. W. Smyrk; treasurer, Mr. A. W. Cato; club captain,: Mr'.. L.lsherwood; vice-captain, Mr. P. ..Conolly; delegates, Messrs. S. Brico, Cobcroft, and Green; selection committee, Messrs.. L.-'lsherwood, Cobcroft, and Steinmuller. . Messrs. Cobcroft and Smyrk spoke of the work, done by the officers, last season and regretted that Messrs. C. Groen and S. Brice could not sec their way to take office again this year. A voto of thanks to the chairman concluded tho mooting. _ . . ■ Tho Pho»nix Lodge of Good Templars held their weekly session in Fulham House, Alicetown, Lower Hutt, on Monday evening! Tho Lodge was opened by Bro. W. Winnie, C.T. Thero was a good attendance of members. It was dccided ■to removo the Lodge room to Rev. Bro. Kay's Schoolroom, Alicetown, Lower Hutt. Thero were two initiations, and four members were proposed. The rest of tho' evening was taken up with-'business. The Lodge was closed by Bro. Winnie, C.T., at "0.40 p.m.
