Tho thief, while at the Harlesden branch of tho London and South-Western Bank overheard a secret code word intimating the transfer thence to the Catford branch of the bank of £750 belonging tc a custopio-. An account at Catford ivaa forthwith opened by the supposed* customer, who withdrew £290, and departed in «il automobile. The swindler repeated the,,same operation at seven other branches of the bank,. each of which had received a similar notice. The total amount secured by the thief was £2320.
